THEIR arrival in LA has hardly been low-key.

But one of the city’s most famous residents has let the Beckhams’ move to the States completely pass her by.

BRITNEY SPEARS did not recognise VICTORIA BECKHAM when she bumped into the Spice Girl in a restaurant last week.

That is despite Posh helping her out by introducing herself as “Victoria from the Spice Girls”. Britney just looked confused and walked off.

Posh was with hubby David — the world’s most recognisable sportsman — but still the penny didn’t drop.

The pair’s awkward exchange at swanky celeb hang-out Chateau Marmont last Tuesday has been the talk of Tinseltown.

Americans have been arguing over who snubbed who.

While some claimed Victoria left after Britney sat down next to her, others insisted it was Britney who refused to sit near Posh.

But I can reveal it was more a case of “Who are you?” than Who Do You Think You Are?

A source said: “They bumped into each other in the Chateau Marmont and Victoria said, ‘Hi Britney. I’m Victoria from the Spice Girls’.

“But Britney had no idea who she was. She just looked at her with a vacant and bemused expression and turned and walked away.”

Now I realise Britney’s not likely to be a soccer fan, and she’s probably been too busy running around LA behaving strangely to have caught up with the latest on the Beckhams in the news.

But the Spice Girls were huge in the States and you’d have thought that, as a fellow pop star, Britney might have caught a glimpse of the girl band at some stage.

Britney’s behaviour and state of mind has gone from bad to worse in recent weeks.

Sources at one magazine said she suffered a shocking meltdown at a photoshoot last month.

She babbled incoherently, vomited on her dress and cleaned up her dog’s mess with another designer outfit, it was claimed.

Before that incident she allegedly slapped her mum Lynne during a heated row and stripped down to her bra and knickers on a Malibu beach to take a dip in the sea.

The singer was in rehab earlier this year after famously shaving off her hair in a salon. Pals claim she has taken ecstasy, cocaine and powerful anti-anxiety prescription drugs.

I wonder if the Spice Girls really went over Britney’s head or if she is just too out of it to remember?

In contrast to Britney’s fall from grace, Posh has made a real splash in the States, enjoying the company of a host of top stars.

And David could make his belated competitive debut for LA Galaxy this week.

TROUBLED BRITNEY SPEARS suffered a shocking meltdown as she babbled incoherently and vomited on her dress at a photoshoot, it emerged last night.

Fears are growing for the troubled pop princess, and insiders warn that the shocking photos “could kill her career”.

Sources said the star behaved erratically after visiting the toilet during the photoshoot for OK! magazine, which took place in a Hollywood mansion last Thursday.

One witness said: “Britney was in a shocking state. She was babbling incoherently, talking in baby talk. She didn’t make sense.

“Britney appeared to be out of her mind. She went to the toilet and when she came back she couldn’t continue with the interview.

“Her eyes were rolling back, she was talking nonsense. She ate some food and vomited over her Gucci dress. She was a mess.

“She also seemed to be hallucinating, and kept saying strange and worrying things. The pictures are shocking and most of them are unusable.

“They paint a frightening picture and could kill her career. She looked like a young COURTNEY LOVE.”

Insiders said Britney, 25, refused to use a top make-up artist hired by magazine bosses and insisted on doing her own make-up, which was smeared and badly applied.

After the disastrous shoot, magazine bosses spent hours debating whether to show Britney as she was or produce a softer version of the photos.

But last night they confirmed they would print the photos unchanged.

Editor-in-Chief Sarah Ivens said: “OK! magazine spent a heartbreaking day with Britney Spears and witnessed first-hand an emotional cry for help that will leave you shocked and sad. This week, the truth will be told.”

The photoshoot disaster is the latest in a series of bizarre Britney outbursts.

Last week she allegedly slapped her mum LYNNE during a heated row over her sons SEAN PRESTON and JAYDEN JAMES. Hours later the star stripped to her bra and knickers on a Malibu beach to take a dip in the sea, screaming and posing for photographers.

In another bizarre incident, she was seen in her Mercedes with Sean Preston sat on her lap instead of in a car seat.

After pulling over, Britney’s bodyguard was seen carrying Sean and handing him to her friend, who placed him back in the rear of the car.

Then, a wild Britney ran at photographers ranting that their shots of her were illegal.

The singer went into rehab earlier this year after she famously shaved off her hair herself in a Los Angeles salon before attacking photographers with an umbrella.

Her ex JASON ALEXANDER has claimed Britney downed dangerous cocktails of drugs including cocaine and pure ecstasy, and attempted suicide by guzzling painkillers.

Britney has admitted trying drugs but said it was “a mistake”. Her spokeswoman was last night refusing to answer calls and emails.

But the black studded knee high boots, long black wig and bum-skimming mini-dress will certainly have people glued to MTV.

The video - filmed in an LA warehouse - is Britney’s first in two years and is reportedly for her new single, Get Back.

A eye-witness said: "Britney was strutting around the set in such a bizarre get-up - she looked like a cross between a hooker and a widow.

"The dress was so short you could see her butt cheeks. A lot of flesh was on display."
